The idea is to construct a well-functioning design-look with excellent navigation that conveys the message and function of your website clearly to reach your target audience.

What are they?
To clarify what these are : your domain name is for example www.yourwebaddress.co.za and your hosting is the server space you have rented to show the contents that are on your domain. You can have 2 different companies that you use to handle each, but often one company is used to handle both.

Domains are renewed yearly and require an annual fee of around R100 for a co.za domain. hosting can vary, but depending on your server size, there are many options available with many different hosting companies, but usually for a standard website a monthly cost of around R100 is the norm. I personally use Hostafrica’s Litespeed server package.

Ownership
I believe that you, as a customer, have the right to own your own domain name and hosting for your company, in that way, you can choose who you would like to work with you on your project at any time and you are able to contact your hosts directly if any technical issues arise with your server and emails. I will also be able to connect with your hosts as long as I am able to login to your hosting account, or I am enabled as an admin. Very often hosts are more than happy to chat with me, even if I am not the account holder, around various technical issues and will simply send an email to you to confirm any actions.

If you would like to transfer your domain and hosting, I can support you technically with this for most of the process and guide you along the way to help you understand what needs to be done and to confirm actions needed.

If you already have a website that to some degree you need to either be maintained, partially or completely rebuilt, I generally recommend WordPress. If your website is already in WordPress, often products, posts and pages content can be saved and imported into a new theme. Sometimes, depending on the builder that was used to build your content, this needs to be redone. I generally find though, with a website rebuild, that it is best to start from scratch with updated coding, theme and refreshed design.

Reasons why websites are rebuilt
The main reasons I find for websites being rebuilt in my experience is from :

  • A website built on code that is so outdated that it cannot be revived.
  • A website that is built with too many plugins and functionalities in a theme that start to cause lagging and performance issues. Usually plugins that were used or a theme with bloated scripts that was there can easily be replaced by a few lines of code and a new theme with a custom plugin that addresses only the functionality required.

I code in PHP as well as OOP and can build a web app around a database for you. I am also able to create a specialised website from a xls worksheet with a customised admin dashboard.

Every website needs technical support, a link to your shipping company, your 3rd party payment gateway, backing up of your old website,  checking settings on your server and website installs.

Server Login Details
As part of the process of building the website, generally I require full login details to your server and the details in case I need to contact your hosting company. This is necessary to check that your server has the correct settings and so that I have instant access in case there is an error in any of the website processes that need to be done.

Emails
I can also partialy help with emails, but generally your hosts are the best people to help you with this as emails are hosted by them.
